Join us to Decarcerate Democracy! Count US IN is doing a Decarcerate democracy tour across the state. Join us for our first stop in Fort Wayne, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Fort Wayne, in the Tecumseh Branch Library at 1411 East State on March 23rd from 6-7:30pmET. This training will cover how voting works for people who are in pre-trial, returning home from jail, experiencing house arrest, and other barriers our incarceration-impacted neighbors often have to navigate. Participants will learn how vote-by-mail functions in jail settings, including how voter registration is completed while incarcerated and how the process works in facilities such as Allen County jails. The session will also review how individuals regain their voting rights after serving time and what support may be needed during reentry. Participants will then learn to turn their energy into action by becoming an Election Defender equipped with voting rights resources and specialized knowledge to support incarceration impacted voters.
